When changing your career, you don’t want this uphill battle alone

I was a student at Portnov’s recently, which coincided with my recent immigration to the US and being laid off from a first job, not related to QA.

I was working as QA Tester back in the old country though, and coming over to the US and trying to land a job in SQA initially, I had faced with totally different level of requirements and expectations for QA Engineers.

So, after leaving the first workplace, rather than looking for something similar with the same pay range, a good friend of mine reminded me of Portnov’s and helped me a great deal with establishing contacts and starting a program.

The learning process itself was not only very insightful and up to date with current SQA trends and technologies, but also one that reaffirms students and help us with believing that this new step forward is actually possible. When changing your career, you don’t want this uphill battle alone, and Portnov Computer School sees it through that you are all caught up with the classes, but also afterwards they offer a number of internship opportunities, some of them paid, and even more of those with a perspective to be hired full-time.

Thanks to the time and effort spent here, I landed a Software Testing Engineer position just recently, feeling a lot more prepared than before, and if you face similar challenges in your SQA career right now – this is the place to take care of you.

Portnov Computer School changed my life!

I got a job immediately after graduating from the school. I do not have background in the tech industry. My job offer is 2x more than what I used to be making. I am really grateful that my friend told me about this school. You won’t regret going here.

I have absorbed and understood a ginormous amount of information

So here I am, I began my journey to become a QA engineer in the middle of July. Since then, I ve learned so much that… frankly… the word = ‘Learned’ isn’t the best fit here. No! I have absorbed and understood a ginormous amount of information. How many times in your life have you felt like you just need a chance? I was ready to go and do whatever it takes if only I got that opportunity. In late December, a few days before Christmas, I got my first job offer. Everyone’s first offer will be different, but I will now be making almost 2 times more than doing my previous job (2 jobs to be precise) and I am allowed to work remotely.

How far are you ready to go? How much of your free time are you willing to sacrifice?I must say that it took so much grit and so much persistence to become knowledgeable and be able to compete on the job market for QA. It is totally worth it! I can’t stress enough the value and diligent work of the school’s staff too. Guys and girls, ask questions, do your homework , don’t sleep if you have to, forget about other less important things and go get that job! People really are given all the tools and knowledge to achieve their goal but most importantly you are presented with the opportunity to be taught, schooled and guided by Janna, Olga, Anna, 2 Sofia’s and many other professionals who are always there for you if you show how dedicated you are.

P.S if you speak more than 2-3 languages, employers are even more eager to talk to you which leads you to interviews.

I should have done it earlier

The one thing that I regret about Portnov Computer School is not starting it earlier! I should have done it earlier. It changed my life, it changed my vision of IT field. This school taught me not only to understand technical stuff such as HTML, CSS, JS, API, SQL, Linux/Unix, but also become more confident as a person.

I would love to thank all the teachers Janna, Olga, Sofia, Michael who are not only knowledgable and experienced in this field but also super patient. Also, I would like to thank Director of Operations, Sofia Pravdina for being so care about the students.

They were intense, well designed and I had an opportunity to have hands on experience to practice everything I learned. Every member of the school is there for you throughout your learning journey; they treat you like a family; they are so patient and willing to repeat as many time as needed and explain it until you understand. Also, I wanted to thank Galina Lagunova, for her amazing teaching approach; she always makes sure that you understood everything and will go over everything in a very detailed way if not.
